Disassembly: Detailed view Measy Air Mouse RC11 and key combinations for resetting the remote (RC12)

 Hey everyone, got bored a few days ago and got my RC11 AirMouse disassembled I will try to explain a few components that I found around it, also took apart the USB stick. The IC that was controlling everything was dremmeled off and couldn't figure out what it was..

   The front is pretty straight forward it's a bunch of tactile metallic membrane switches for all the switches... the front isn't populated by anything else.

   The back in comparison is where all the magic happens and the gyroscope is, the rf module and the IC and also the current regulation.

   The IC as I said is dremmeled out from the factory and next to it seems to be some sort of connection for programming the IC as i notice it, it should be some sort of AVR ISP with 8 pins. The IC could be a Atmel or a Sonix IC. I will explain a bit later when we take a look at the stick why it could be a Sonix.

   On the upper left corner we have the RF module that has the antenna next to it. this is a 2.4Ghz module the model number is A7105 by Avant this is a very used RF IC used in  RC toys, not usually in the cheap ones :P, as you may have guessed. Almost forgot the crystal is 16Mhz. More info about the RF module can be found HERE.

   On the lower left corner we can find an Invensense MPU-3050C which is a 3-way gyroscope, accelerometer and temp sensor tho not all it's functions are used in this application it is more than enough to give out a precise reading of your hand movements at some times even too precise. More details can be found HERE.

   On the upper right part of the remote is pretty empty just the power supply regulation a 3.3v regulator and a few capacitors used to smooth the current out.

   In the USB stick we can find another A7105 and an aparent Sonix Serial to USB convertor or better yet a small IC that can convert ISP to USB and make the connection possible all I could make out is that it's a Sonix IC. Although I've tried a bunch of magnification to get the model on it I couldn't see it well enough to figure out what it was.

    Searching on the internet for the model for that IC I've noticed that Sonix makes some IC's similar to the Atmele Atmega series and Attiny, PIC etc. For cost efficiency I think they may have used the same IC on the remote as in the USB stick.
    Maybe someone can help me out and find out a way to get a dummy USB stick for this remote working I haven't been able to find one and a friend is in need of a Stick cause he lost the one that came with the remote and Measy was a bit uncommunicative to say the least about shipping a new stick.

Codes for resetting the remote:

Method 1:

First, unplug the USB receiver.
Second, install batteries.
When the indicator light OFF, press up key and down key at the same time, do not loosen
Then press ENTER key
Then loose these three keys at the same time.
Then the indicator light will begin blinking
Then insert the USB receiver, wait 3-5 seconds,
When the indicator light is OFF, the reset is completed

 Method 2:

This method also resets the gyroscope in case of drifting of the cursor or other erratic behavior.

First put the usb receiver in your PC’s USB port;
Place the remote on a flat surface;
Second press the up key, down key and G key together, the indicator will light and then blink,after 3-5 seconds, the indicator will be off, and the reset will be completed.

  1. I lost the usb receiver, :(, you can replace it with something, eg. With a computer mouse?. Nowhere can I find the original.

    1. Unfortunately a friend of mine had the same problem, his laptop was stolen with the receiver in it and so he remained with a useless keyboard/mouse. We couldn't find anything that would work. You could try a Chinese made mouse with the same A7105 receiver.

  2. I tried with another remote control and transmitter Measy, reboot, and it does not work.

  3. There are some key combinations to reset the keyboard... this might help: http://www.wayteq.eu/files/download/measy-rc11/measy-rc11-air-mouse-manual-en.pdf
